You Can’t Have a Mastermind Group Without Recruiting Your Peers

Generally speaking there are two types of mastermind groups, horizontal and vertical.
The horizontal ones are those where only one member of a particular industry or profession can belong to the group. This provides a range of experience that may not be directly relevant to you but does offer fresh eyes when considering the problems each member is facing.
The other type of mastermind group, and I must say my personal favorite, is the vertically organized group.
Each member’s experiences are directly relevant to everyone else. And their eyes are actually fresh eyes because they may know, specifically, what you’ve been overlooking – regardless how obvious it is after you know it.
It is the 21st Century Mastermind Process that these vertically oriented groups were created for. That’s because these colleagues and contemporaries while inside your industry, are located farm outside your traditional marketing area.
And you can meet face to face once or twice a year at your industry’s trade association meetings.
There is more information to help you choose your path in the “Best Practices” area.
I hope you will give you direction careful consideration – since it will have a great deal to do with your next step in the process.
Once you’ve concluded which of the two types of groups you want to start your journey with – the first person who you would like to accompany you will, we’re sure, become self-evident.
A principle activity at this juncture is to consider:
- I hope you’ll become conversant with all the information in the members only area before inviting anyone to join your group. So, please be patient and continue to take the recommended action steps.
Let’s begin with your presentation
In our experience we have found that it is emotion that motivates people to action. And that is particularly true when the actual visible bottom line benefits are not yet in view. Because these collaborations often result in actions not taken it will never be possible to absolutely quantify the values received.
As individuals and business owners we are under a great deal of pressure today. The day-to-day reality for the average business owner is survival, which means decisions that can not be seen to directly contribute to their profits right now, are easily put off “until things quiet down” – which never happens.
A real mastermind group is really a group of people committed to helping each other no matter what. A group that will listen to each other; serve as advocates for each other; provide honest feedback to each other; share personal experiences; and encourage each other.
As humans, our roots are tribal. Members of a tribe feel they are part of something special – a bond, a team with a common purpose.
Many business owners have lost that connected feeling, and long for that type of support. This is the heart and soul of what a successful mastermind group is really about – a group of compatriots committed to helping each other no matter what.
When you present this concept to someone, get yourself in touch with that committed team feeling, and come from that place.
This is not networking, this about forming a powerful alliance that can change lives and move mountains for people! If you can convey that message and feeling, it will resonate on a deep level.
